I know there are a lot of Warhammer 40,000 video games covering a lot
of genres, but I never thought I'd see a Warhammer 40,000 aerial combat
video game - all about Orks.
Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron is
due out on PC and consoles during the fourth quarter of 2020, and is
described as a "fast-paced, aerial shooter where the player is an Ork
Flyboy, taking to the skies to do what Orks do best - fight!".
You
start off as a lowly Flyboy and conquer worlds as you work your way up
to the position of Warboss. We're promised multiple planets, a 20+
mission campaign, a "grim humour" tone and various techniques, such as
dog fighting, dive bombing and carpet bombing to master. "All of the
player actions revolve around fighting," reads the official blurb.
"Building and crafting is for the grots."
You can fly Dakkajets,
Burna-Bommas and Blitza-Bommas, and equip them with various guns, bombs
and missiles. You get to choose an Ork Clan to join, with each bestowing
unique benefits. The Death Skullz, for example, are the most
superstitious of the clans (they paint themselves and their planes blue
for good luck), and so have lucky planes that will occasionally ignore a
hit or output critical damage. Yep. I'm going with the the Death
Skullz.
Check out the trailer below. It looks like the Orks are having fun!
Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron is in development at Chicago-based
Phosphor Games Studio, maker of 2016 VR game The Brookhaven Experiment.
It called Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron "the first video game built
from the ground up by Orks for Orks".
Why would Games Workshop go
with a Warhammer 40K aerial combat video game? It may have something to
do with last year's release of a new edition of tabletop game
Aeronautica Imperialis. Just look at this beauty:
You know what? I'm pumped. WAAAGH!
